How can someone without HIV/AIDS find affordable housing?

We recommend that everyone seeking affordable housing, regardless of their HIV status, take the following steps to locate housing:

  • Contact the DC Housing Authority at (202) 535-1706.  Make sure to apply for both a housing voucher and public housing.  These are separate applications and waiting lists.
  • Contact Housing Counseling Services at (202) 667-7006 and request assistance in finding affordable housing.  Note:  if someone does have HIV/AIDS and is referred to special programs, call back and ask for assistance through general affordable housing programs.
  • Use the District’s online housing locator service at DCHousingSearch.org, which also operates a toll-free, bilingual call center (1-877-428-8844) Monday – Friday from 9 am to 8 pm EST. This assistance is also free of charge.
