Supportive Services
Support Groups
Building Futures offers weekly peer support groups open to residents of our housing and the broader community to support the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of participants. Led by our staff, these meetings provide the opportunity to share information and life experiences among participants. We offer the following support groups targeting the following groups:
- Persons living with HIV/AIDS who are in recovery from alcohol or substance abuse
- Persons living with HIV/AIDS focused on physical and mental health issues helping participants live with the disease
Emergency Assistance to Building Futures’ Residents and Case Management Clients
Building Futures provides families and individuals living with HIV/AIDS emergency assistance for emergency or short term support for utilities, telephone bills, rent, vouchers for food, transportation or short-term health insurance premium support. We also provided limited donations of clothing, furniture, and household goods, and other items as they are donated. Due to the limited resources available, this program is limited to participants of Building Futures case management or housing programs.
Programs for Kids and Youth
Building Futures created the Study Buddies Program to increase our kids’ academic performance, develop a child’s ability to resolve conflict, forge healthy relationships with their families and peers, and build interpersonal skills through recreation. We offer after-school and Saturday programs, which include tutoring, team-building, creative, and recreational activities. On Saturdays, we provide opportunities for kids to explore the city and region, gain exposure to cultural institutions, participate and watch sporting events, and build skills and awareness in new areas.
We are grateful for the long-term commitment of the Junior League of Washington and their volunteers, who provide many of our services for children. In addition, the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation and Broadway CARES/Equity Fights AIDS have provided generous financial support for our programs.
